A man was found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound following an hours-long police standoff in the Kapilina Beach Homes community in Ewa Beach on Thursday, authorities said.
Police said officers were sent to the home on Bittern Avenue shortly after 7 a.m. for a man who was reportedly armed with a firearm.
Specialized Services Division officers and crisis negotiators were at the scene.

Nearby homes were evacuated, police said.
After attempts to negotiate a peaceful ending to the standoff, police managed to make entry into the home and found the man dead.
A spokesperson for Kapilina Beach Homes issued a statement, saying, “We are saddened by the loss of a community member and extend our deepest aloha and condolences to all those who are grieving today.”
