Additional security will be on the high school campus for the remainder of the week.

Farrington High School will reopen on Thursday after a shooting Wednesday morning cancelled classes and left a 21-year-old man in serious condition.

In a letter to families, Farrington High School Principal Alfredo Carganilla said no students or teachers were involved in the shooting and described the incident as accidental. Additional security will be present on campus this week, he added.

“While we are unable to share further details due to the ongoing police investigation, we can confirm that the situation was not directed at our school and no threats have been made,” Carganilla wrote.

Honolulu Police Department spokeswoman Michelle Yu said an investigation is ongoing, although the search for a suspect has been suspended. No arrests have been made.

It’s still unclear if the shooting took place on campus in Honolulu’s Kalihi neighborhood.
